![]() If you never test the recovery process, you can't be assured that the recovery process works, that you know how to use it or that you have indeed a valid backup of all of your critical user data. Periodically I will go to my backup software and test the process by restoring some ancient deleted file to my desktop. For this reason I use CrashPlan to back up my critical user data to both the cloud and an EHD. I would never trust my critical user data to a single backup choice. You don't need a Crashplan Subscription to back up locally or to another computer.) Unlike Carbonite, Crashplan will also let you back up to a local disk. You need to go to the Restore option to see them. With CrashPlan it is truly unlimited, as I have several EHDs included in the backup plan As with Carbonite you can go online and navigate your backup files down to the versions saved of each file. ![]() I switched from Carbonite when I went to a Mac and Carbonite would not backup any but the Primary drive on my system. I've never found an issue with Crashplan. More importantly It is really bad to lose images which can not be replaced. ![]() However if you then find out the files you thought were backed up are not there, it is a waste of money. Both are much lower priced much lower than the other pay by gig storage companies when storing 2 T of images. From the reviews on line both companies have a lot of negative comments. You can do this from other locations so you can get a file when using another computer. Carbonite if I remember correctly you log into their server and see the files. You do not know what they actually have in storage only what they should have. ![]() When the screen pops up and says all files are all backed up you can't be sure. Even with the times in question were checked to be backed up they said it never received them. In the logs they do not see where the files were ever in their storage. I never needed to restore until recently and found they do not have 3 months of CR2 (1100 images) and 100 of so DNGs from the same time period. I used Carbonite until 3 years ago when I switched to CrashPlan. ![]()
